Principal’s Message

Glen Allen Cub Families,

Welcome to the 2017-2018 School year! We are looking forward to “Building a Brighter Future” and are thrilled with the construction projects that will be occurring in and around our school campus beginning this Fall.  Our school community can not wait to start constructing 8 additional classrooms/learning spaces, expanding our Glen Allen 5 Star Cafe, and creating additional parking for our staff and families!  Our school team remains committed to providing innovative instructional strategies that engage our students, promote problem-solving strategies, and foster independent creativity at Glen Allen. We will continue our school wide focus on differentiating instruction in reading and math, fostering 21st century skills, creating hands on approaches to health/science/nutrition through our Outdoor Learning Lab/Garden area, and providing opportunities for student involvement outside of the core content areas. It is evident that at Glen Allen Elementary School, everyone is committed not only to providing a strong academic foundation, but also to providing a nurturing environment in which our students can develop into successful and productive, global citizens. Our goal is to support each student as they become our “bright future!”

I encourage you to become an active volunteer. Along with support from our families and the community, our students will be able to acquire excellent academic skills, develop strong decision-making capabilities, and become lifelong learners. There are many different opportunities in which you can support our students. Please consider becoming an active member of our PTA, talking to your child’s teacher about volunteer opportunities in the classroom, or visit our school office for more information. Student success occurs when special partnerships are formed between the school, home, and community. At Glen Allen Elementary, we pride ourselves in continuing our strong tradition of community support.

Each day, we strive to create a positive and enriching school climate. Successful students are the result of combined efforts. We believe that good communication leads to a close-knit and active community. Please visit our school website/google calendars and PTA website, as well as read individual classroom newsletters/blogs each week to see the exciting activities and events taking place at Glen Allen Elementary School and in our community. Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher, one of our PTA board members, or myself if you have any questions or concerns at any time. We are committed to making this the best year for all of our students.

Sincerely,
Melissa Halquist-Pruden
