Glen Allen Cub Families,

Welcome to the 2023-2024School year! With over 44 years of building great Cubs at this school site, we are so excited to expand our learning opportunities this year for both our students, staff, and families! This year we will continue to add to  The House System, an exciting element to the fun we already have each day! .Our focus will go beyond “The Glen Allen Three: Being Safe, Being Respectful, and Being Responsible”. Our school culture embraces “5 Houses, 1 Community ~ Empowering every VOICE”! with a school wide focus on the following  5 Cub values; Valiant, Optimistic, Innovative, Compassion, and Evolving. We are excited to welcome our new Cubs into their house!!

Valiant – House Tharros
Optimistic – House Omuhle
Innovative – House Aerie
Compassionate – House Kokoro
Evolving – House Kinyonga

Our school family remains committed to providing innovative instructional strategies that engage our students, promote problem-solving strategies, and foster independent creativity at Glen Allen. Our efforts tie beautifully into the Henrico Learner Profile. Our Cubs will be #LifeReady! We will continue our school wide focus on differentiating instruction in reading and math, fostering life ready skills, creating hands on approaches to health/science/nutrition through our Outdoor Learning Lab/Garden area, and providing opportunities for student involvement outside of the core content areas. As a staff, we have been committed to listening, learning, and growing through our on going work with the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities, as well as professional development around cultural competencies, unconscious bias, and responsive classrooms to expand our knowledge and support All of our Cubs. It is evident that at Glen Allen Elementary School, everyone is committed not only to providing a strong academic foundation, but also to providing a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment in which all of our students can develop into successful and productive, global citizens.

I encourage you to become an active volunteer!!! The ongoing support from our families and the community, enable our students to acquire excellent academic skills, develop strong decision-making capabilities, and become lifelong learners. There are so many different opportunities in which you can support our students. Please consider becoming an active member of our PTA, talking to your child’s teacher about volunteer opportunities in the classroom, or visit our school office for more information. Student success occurs when special partnerships are formed between the school, home, and community. At Glen Allen Elementary, we pride ourselves in continuing our strong tradition of community support.

We are committed to making this the best year for all of our students!!!

Sincerely,
Melissa Halquist-Pruden, Principal
